ArtsConnect 13th Annual artwalk: Artists At Large

This weekend is artwalk weekend in Port Moody. The gift shop will be open inside the Port Moody Arts Centre, with work from all our artists on display. A number of our artists are also taking part in the event so look out for photographer Sarah Ronald and this month's featured artist, Dan Severance in the arts centre. Vicki Allesia will be at Port Moody Station Museum and Clive Tucker will be in his ceramics studio on Murray Street.

A reminder! The Blackberry Artists are proud to announce the opening of their Inspiring Each Other exhibition at Port Moody Arts Centre. The official opening is tomorrow, 6-8pm in the main gallery.

This Month at City Hall: Inspiring Stuff

This month work from a number of Blackberry Artists graces the display case on the mezzanine (up the stairs opposite the city reception desk). The society is showcasing its upcoming exhibition, Inspiring Each Other, a collaborative work with students from Port Moody Middle School where text from the youngsters has inspired our artists to create.

The exhibition opens at the Port Moody Arts Centre on April 19th (opening evening 6-8pm, refreshments provided).

April's Featured Artist: Dan Severance

In his own words, Dan Severance.

I work with clay because of the many things I can create from it. Whether it be wheel-thrown or hand-built, the surface can be satin-smooth or the texture of sharp lava, and the colours bold and bright or dark and moody. My inspirations come from nature with its ceaseless textures and ever-changing colours. I want people to pick up and explore the textures of my work with their hands. The firing of the clay is open to many options as well and I enjoy Raku and Pit Firing with their unexpected and wonderful results. My current work is constructed in a way to show how the pieces are assembled, and for the user to enjoy the colours and varied textures in something as simple as everyday dinnerware.

Critter Adoption Post: Easter Chick

Normally I only post a couple of items each week, but this cute little chick from artist Valerie Gilbert certainly caught my eye. Surely someone near you (or even you yourself) could benefit from such a sunny chirpy visitor?

The gift shop is open today, 11.30am to 5pm :)

And it's Easter tomorrow.
