Even more featured artists! in the press: Vicki Allesia and Amanda Maxwell
Bloom Tulips by Vicki Allesia
Blackberry Artists seem to get everywhere this month!
Last week it was the turn of Vicki and Amanda for their turn in the spotlight with a local news interview advertising the upcoming ArtsConnect Port Moody Art Walk weekend. They shared the occasion with the beautiful heritage building housing the Tealicious Tea Company on Clarke Street, which will be their studio-away-from-home for the weekend. Owner Nancy was at hand with all manner of helpful tea tips, and Helen, who coordinates the local ArtsConnect organisation, gave a brief history of the studio tour.

Featured Artist: At The Library - Sandra Ho
This month, the work of Blackberry Artist Sandro Ho is featured in the display case beside the library in the City Hall building on Newport Drive in Port Moody. Sandra's exquisite jewelry designs were also featured last month in the Blackberry Gift Shop. She has also generously donated the stunning prize for the current customer survey this quarter, a stylish amazonite and sterling pendant with a stamped heart charm.
Please visit us in the shop to take part.

City Hall featured artist: Del Holbrook
This month Blackberry artist Del Holbrook is featured in the City Hall display case (on the stairs to the first level of municipal offices).
Del, who 'retired' recently as president of the artists' cooperative, uses wood as his medium of choice and specialises in the most incredibly intricate pieces of intarsia. From a distance his work appears as a painting - it's not until you get much closer that you appreciate the clever and fluid interlocking nature of each composition.
Nature and animals seem to be strong influences - currently there is a cute puppy, a penguin mother and chick and a fine lion on display (gift shop and City Hall).A more complete portfolio is available on his website.
My personal fave though is the rather handsome carved moose seen at the start of this post. Please do go visit and say 'howdy' before he is snapped up by a fan!
All pieces on display are available for sale thru the gift shop. Please ask for details.

April's featured artist: Alina Markiewicz
This month's artist is photographer Alina Markiewicz.
Alina, who has been living in Lower Mainland since the early nineties, is equally engaged by both nature and urban environments as subjects for her photography. Her work conveys emotion and draws the viewer in. This month's display is a beautiful catalogue of her work and well worth visiting the gift shop to see it "in the flesh".
All her work is hand printed on archival papers and in limited editions.
In addition to her photographic skills, Alina is also responsible for the stylish layout of all our work in the gift shop (thank you). Her themed shelf displays are a beautiful work of art in themselves - please call back to the gift shop regularly as she continually updates this work too.

Customer Survey Prize
Each quarter, Blackberry Artist's Society rewards one lucky customer with a gift from one of our Artists. Just for completing a Customer Survey, you may win this beautiful silver and amazonite pendant created by Sandra Ho.
Completing the survey takes only a minute or so. We want to find out how our customers found the shop; through a friend or advertisement or some other way. As well we want to know if you find what you are looking for on your visit. Your input helps us to better market the shop to the people in the Tri-Cities area.
Our draw will take place in June and the prize will be awarded at the Arts Centre Opening in July. Come on in and get your name in the mix!

external display: Myrta Hayes
The Blackberry Artists are not just confined to the gift shop at the Arts Centre, they can also be seen out and about in Port Moody.
One of the external display areas is found on the staircase to the upper level at the City Hall Galleria. Last month it was ceramic artist (and Blackberry Artist's Society web designer) Myrta Hayes whose beautiful work was featured.
One of her favourite materials is pure white, high fire porcelain which she decorates with the subtlest of glazes like watercolour brush strokes, or with textural designs which alter the translucency of the vessel. Her work looks incredible (in my opinion) on a window ledge with the sun streaming in thru its walls, similar to the effect seen in the City Hall display cases.
So next time you're visiting the library take an side trip up the stairs to the council offices to check out the display - you'll never be disappointed.
NB: pieces on display are also for sale thru the gift shop.
