Beside the Seaside
shell sculpture by Pat de Couto |
Summer.
It's what the beach is for.
Barnacles, sand, gritty stuff in your shoes, tidepools, tidepool creatures in your shoes, beach-combing, sand in your clothes, shells, sandcastles, sand in your hair ...
photography by Sarah Ronald |
(ahem) Let the Blackberry Artists make it easy for you to keep those seaside memories.
And without the sand too.
Your parents will thank us.

Please welcome new artist, Denise Dupré
Please welcome new artist, abstract colorist Denise Dupré, who successfully juried in to the cooperative at our last meeting.
Denise is also one of our local artists, working from a studio at the city's Esplanade Studios in Port Moody. Her work is a great addition to our walls and shelves, featuring a beautiful and energetic use of colour. As with all jurying, we look for artists to enhance our presence in the Arts Centre and bring a certain pzazz to the gift shop. Denise's work certainly fits the bill.
Welcome Denise!

July's Featured Artist in the Gift Shop: Luci Gimenes
This month we're featuring the beautiful jewelry of Luci Gimenes in the gift shop. Her work is a vibrant mix of seed beading colours or a refined glimmer from sterling silver jumprings.
Luci works in with both beads and wire, producing intricately crafted works of art for your neck, wrist or earlobes. Her main techniques are bead weaving stitches like peyote and the woven technique of chainmaille.
In bead weaving, beads are strung on thin filament and then stitched to form 3D shapes. Luci skilfully blends colour and creates geometric patterns in her pieces, as well as ruffles, waves and chain links.
Her chainmaille work shows how gracefully simple jumprings can be woven, forming flat weaves and round weave strands. The pieces have weight and presence, along with a fluidity like fabric. Amazingly, this is the same technique used to create armour for knights of old.
Luci's work is intricate, graceful and stylish. She's a great addition to the portfolio of other jewellers in the gift shop and a wise investment for your summer accessories.
