Jolly Cycling Weather

on your bike
photographic tile by Sarah Ronald, ceramics by Myrta Hayes

Spring is only just round the corner (well it's officially here but I'm thinking of the more clement weather type of spring we know and love) and frankly, my dear, it's time to start shedding those comfortable layers in preparation for summer.
Cycling is a great way of getting fitter, sprucing up the metabolism after a sluggish winter, and practising greener transport alternatives.
It's also a wonderful way to notice the little things in life, like how dry a road can be when the rain has stopped (finally) and ooh! little green shoots.
Have fun!

yes, it's another scheduled post. i'm being very optimistic about rainfall.

Rain and Blues

don't be blue
paper mask by Joan Marr, rain print by James Mah

disclaimer: this is another one of those scheduled posts. today it actually snowed in the midst of non-stop rain showers. i don't think i'm being presumptuous in thinking this might continue for a week or so. my apologies if it is sunning heavily by the time this post is published

Don't let the rain get you down. Banish those winter blues.
Spring is just around the corner :)
Don't lose hope.

City Hall Display: April 2011

grounding sandals

This month's City Hall display is by jewelry artist, Urszula Petrykowska. Urszula works in metals, having recently added silversmithing to her range of techniques following her recent graduation from the Vancouver Community College jewellery program. Her signature line of leaf imprint jewelry is represented by a cuff and earrings. Her work flows from a love of the organic form and pieces appear to grow from the natural world.
Visitors to the display case will also be treated to her new works, sculpture. The amazing grounding sandals completed for the recent Roots exhibition take a surreal exploration on the concept of grounding oneself.

April's Featured Artist: Pat de Couto

April's featured artist

April's featured artist is driftwood carver and sculptor, Pat de Couto.
Pat is behind many of the enchanting and engaging faces seen in the gift shop.

Is that just a knot of driftwood I spy? - no, it is a face appearing from the grain.
Am I being watched? Yes, and it's probably by one of Pat's creations.

The featured artist wall is covered with her "conversation" heads, all hobnobbing with each other.
If you're quiet enough, I swear you can hear the murmur of conversation.
